Parasitology is the study of parasites, their hosts, and the relationship between them. Every free-living species has its own unique species of parasite – humans included – such that the number of parasitic species greatly exceeds the number of free-living species. Parasites in humans result in millions of deaths each year throughout the world, but particularly in the developing world. This course is designed by UK Public College to participants a systematic and logical approach to new developments in the practice of parasitology. Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to the development of effective techniques in human disease control for improved human health and provision of consultancy services. They will also be eligible for employment in medical institutions, research institutions, consultancy firms, institutions of higher learning and nongovernmental organizations.

This level 6  course in Parasitology will explain the structure and classification of parasites, the mechanisms of parasitic diseases, specific human and animal parasites and the diseases they cause. This  teaches participants the basic properties of pathogens, the pathogenesis of the diseases they cause, host defences, and epidemiology are highlighted. It also places more emphasis on host parasite interactions, identification of new drug targets, development and application of modern diagnostic procedures, planning, implementation, supervision and evaluation of parasitic disease control programmes at national and international level.
